The Clipper City Chordsmen Chorus is an a’ cappella men’s chorus whose mission is to “preserve and
encourage” the Barber Shop style of music.
The Manitowoc County Chapter is one of 810 Chapters in the Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS), formerly known as the “Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America” (SPEBSQSA). This Society was founded in Tulsa, OK, in 1938. Today the society has Chapters in the United States, Canada, England, Australia, China, South Africa, Germany, Brazil, New Zealand, Sweden, and others. The Manitowoc Chapter was chartered in 1945 and has been very active in the community ever since.
Membership currently numbers 40 men, 30 of whom sing regularly with the chorus. The Manitowoc County Chapter, home of the world-famous Schmitt Bros. Quartet, International Champions in 1951, today features an outstanding chorus and a talented and entertaining quartet called “Occasional Harmony.”
| The Clipper City Chordsmen encourage any male, 12 to 100 years of age, who likes to sing and has some semblance of an “ear” and an ability to match a tone ... and with no perpetual "frog in the throat" ... to visit them at their rehearsal facility at 811A Jay St. in Manitowoc any Tuesday at 7:30 P.M. as a walk-in or as a guest of a member. You will be "As Welcome As The Flowers In May." After three visits, the membership chairman and music director will perform a brief voice-placement test, the secretary will respond to your interest in joining with the necessary paperwork, and the dues arrangements will be finalized. The Executive Board will officially accept you as a member. And then your fun really begins! | ![]() Click here for information on our Spring Show, "Jukebox Saturday Night" |
