Organized initially as “3 Retreads and a Spare,” Occasional Harmony, now 60 months young and wearing matching socks and shorts, is a barbershop quartet, an all-occasion foursome with over 100 cumulative years of entertaining experience. Each singer is a member of Manitowoc County’s Clipper City Chordsmen.

Tenor Randy Detjen, Two Rivers, is the youngest and the artistic influence in this quartet. A lean production manager with a company in Illinois during the week, as well as president of his own “What-A-Relief” wall-sculpturing business, Randy and his wife, Jane, are parents of two grown (one married, one single) daughters and one granddaughter. Randy also provides the color and ambiance to our rehearsals and presentation format.

Lead Bill Heinzen,  Manitowoc, is a well-known area soloist and, by far, the most prolific of the group.  He and his wife, Judy, have four grown and married daughters and one grown and married son, all of which adds up to 15 (wow!) grandchildren. Bill is a retired Land O’ Lakes field rep, an avid camper, a courier for Holy Family Memorial, and the quartet chauffeur.

Baritone Lee Neubert, Manitowoc, a retired nursing home maintenance engineer, and his wife, Charleene, have three grown and married daughters and six grandchildren. Lee used to handle the quartet finances, but after investing our money in Charmin tissue and revolving doors last year, we were wiped out before we could turn around.  When not working on musical arrangements for our quartet, he serves as a volunteer driver for Aurora and The Red Cross.

Bass David Olson , Manitowoc, knows as the “striking Viking” until wrinkles and middle age set in, is past-president of the Chordsmen and perpetual historian for the Chordsmen. A retired English teacher, his main claim to fame is solving 3-4 daily crossword puzzles....in red ink! David and his wife, Jean, have two grown sons, one of whom is married, and a grown daughter, married, and five athletic grandchildren. David serves as part-time as a bailiff for the Manitowoc County Circuit Court. He is also the contact for the quartet.
