ANNUAL “YOUTH IN HARMONY” FESTIVAL - March 29, 2008

In cooperation with the Music Educators National Conference (MENC), our Society sponsors an outreach program to encourage the use of barbershop style music in school music programs. The purpose of the festival is not for use as a recruiting tool for barbershop chapters, but to encourage and attract young men into school vocal music curricula. That is why we have two clinicians, one for choral or glee club style music and another for barbershop style music, both of which are appropriate for school music groups.  Sheet music is provided by the Manitowoc Chapter, with selection of the numbers of the clinicians. A teaching quartert will be provided to aid the clinicians.

Music will be available prior to the festival so the students may become familiar with it before the festival day. Local barbershoppers will be on hand for coaching and to help the young men learn the music, if necessary. The festival will be fun and educational, and will stress the importance of male involvement in vocal music, which can be enjoyed for the rest of their lives.

The festival will be an all day session at Lincoln High School in Manitowoc, with registration from 9:00 - 9:30 AM, followed by rehearsals throughout the day. Lunch and dinner will be provided. At 7:00 PM a show for the public will be presented with four numbers by the festival chorus. The teaching quartet and chapter quartets will also perform and the Clipper City Chordsmen Chorus will close the program. Parents, relatives, friends and all music lovers are encouraged to attend.
